composer: Eliane Radigue 1986 in its creator’s studio

instrument: ARP 2500 Synthesizer

length: 86 min

final mix and production: Study and Musical Achievement Group (GERM) Paris

technical assistance with the final mix: Marc Moreau

This work is inspired by the life of Milarepa. He was a great yogi and poet who lived in Tibet in the eleventh century. The story of his life, as told to his closest disciple, Rechungpa, is one of the most popular works in Tibetan culture. “Mila Kabum”, or “Namthar”, was one of the first pieces translated in a western language. In this tale of the life of Milarepa, legends and real events are intermixed.

This musical evocation covers nine eras, preceded by a prelude, cor- responding to the major stages in the life of this famous yogi. These

nine eras are musically seamless, each giving rise naturally to the next:

. Prelude

1. The origins

2. Mischief

3. The meeting with Marpa

4. The tests

5. Practice

6. The visit to the home country 7. The retreats

8. Realisation

9. Death
