re-enacting sor juana

A room in an old monastery once again reverts to a cell: inspired by the life and work of the Mexican Baroque poet and nun Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz, the composer and performer Pia Palme goes into seclusion with her instrument and a portable studio. In the past the apparent contrast between retreat and extreme opening, inner and outer, anonymity and publicity – which incidentally can also be found in Sor Juana’s work – has often stimulated Palme’s artistic projects. Like Sor Juana, the artist receives her listeners in her cell, shrouded in the anonymity of a contemporary habit. Unique compositions for subbass-recorder and electronics can be heard in- and outside the room: hear me with your eyes.
