In line with graphical sound projects by Patrick K.-H. / Oleg Makarov, “Filtrational anomaly” derives from the thicket of early XX-century media history. Exposed to A.Smirnov’s “Sound in Z” research work as students at his Theremin Center, they dig into E.Murzin’s ANS drawn sound synthesizer. Equipped with ink, brush and paper, they transpose its principles into computer technology in live performance settings. Broadening the ANS palette, they intertwine its spectrum-to-sound approach with a spectrum as a filter that unfolds in a psychoacoustic multi-channel room.
